The First Event in Hamline Church’s 2016-17 Arts and Music Series is the Charlie Chaplin Silent Movie: “Gold Rush” with Live Organ Accompaniment
On Sunday, October 9, Hamline Church United Methodist will host a showing of the Charlie Chaplin silent movie “Gold Rush” accompanied by organ music from acclaimed organist Aaron David Miller. Aaron is a master of theater organ style, a mix of jazz, big band, jitterbug and pop styles. He improvises the whole show and is in absolute accord with every nuance Chaplin does on screen. His theater organ concerts in the Twin Cities and across the country are always well-attended and he gets rave reviews and frequent return invitations. Before the film, the church will serve a free pizza lunch with pizza from the community bread oven. The film will begin at 1pm. Enjoy fresh-baked pizza from Hamline Church’s outdoor wood-fired oven and settle in as Aaron puts the organ through its paces with Charlie Chaplin!

About Aaron David Miller:
Aaron David Miller is a renowned organ improviser having won numerous international awards and given concerts across the country. His orchestra works have been performed by such ensembles as the Seattle Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Zurich Symphony, and New York New Music Ensemble. Recent compositions include works for Yale University and an upcoming Christmas recording by the Bach Chamber Players of St. Paul. His organ, choral and orchestra compositions are published by Augsburg Fortress, Paraclete Publishing and Oxford University Press. Dr. Miller was one of the featured artists at the National AGO convention held in Houston,Texas in 2016. In addition to many performance prizes, Dr. Miller was recipient of the 2004 Hellenikon Idyllion Prize for Composition, Athens, Greece. Dr. Miller is Music Director at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. He is also a Forensic Musicologist for Donato Music, Scarsdale, New York.
