Many groups across our country and living in our neighborhoods are affected by historical trauma. The impact of these violent and systemic occurrences is even more tragic in that they were government sanctioned. The remnants span generations – and is still felt by the descendants of the initial victims. It can be seen in our interactions and hinders our understanding of each other. Healing begins only when we acknowledge the trauma, recognize its impact on the larger society, and work together to build resiliency and end systemic vestiges of this sad legacy.
