Reverend Anita Phillips is a member of the Keetoowah Band of the Cherokee Nation and is an elder in the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference. She has served as the Executive Director of the Native American Comprehensive Plan (NACP) for twelve years. NACP is one of six national racial/ethnic plans of the United Methodist Church. She has previously served several Native American churches in Oklahoma and served as a district superintendent and chair of the Board of Ordained Ministry for herconference. Prior to entering formal ministry, she served as a social worker for over twenty years within Native American communities working with families and children. Rev. Phillips has an M.S.W. from the University of Oklahoma, and an M.Div. from Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has served on many boards and committees at all levels of the UMC and frequently teaches/preaches at annual conference sessions. She became a published co-author in 2012 with the book, On This Spirit Walk: The Voices of Native American and Indigenous Peoples (with Dr. Henrietta Mann). She presently is serving as co-editor and contributing author for a new book of Native American worship resources due to be published in 2017. She is a proud mother, grandmother and human being.
