An Earth Day Challenge & Blessing of the Bikes
Sunday, May 6, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 11:30 am
During the month of May, Hamline Church is challenging members to drive less. Every gallon of gas we burn adds 18 pounds of CO2 to the atmosphere and promotes climate change. Spring is a perfect time to explore transportation options – walk, bike, bus or car pool.
We have some suggestions to help:
- Keep track of the miles you drive. Monitor your mileage for the end of April and then see if you can reduce that number during May. (Pick up a tracking card by the doors.)
- Locate your neighbors and carpool to church. On the map provided in the Commons, pin your location and fill in the corresponding contact sheet.
- In general, be mindful of your driving. Before you jump in the car, take a minute to consider your options. Even simply planning your outings can save miles.
Blessing of the Bikes
We will highlight the challenge with a blessing of bikes (also sneakers and bus cards). We encourage all members to use an alternative (non-car) method of transportation or carpooling to church and receive a blessing after worship! At the end of May, each of us will have an opportunity to report our “miles not driven” and the green team will estimate our collective CO2 savings. The individual journey to responsible care of our earth home can seem daunting, perhaps as we share that journey it will be clear that we can make a difference!
